MY STORY

In March, I was contacted by the Gibbon Conservation Center in California regarding a gibbon in need of sanctuary placement.
After several months of coordination, Meika had her first vet visit on September 15th, where she was given a physical exam, an
ultrasound of her heart and abdomen, and her first vaccinations. She was found to be healthy and signed off for transport to the Sanctuary.

With the help of Flying Animals USA, LLC, she was booked on a Delta flight from San Diego to Atlanta on the 24th of September.
On the 22nd, Ashley Lloyd, Curator of Animal Care, and Krystal Lightell, one of our animal care technicians, flew to San Diego to
assist in getting her to the airport. They then flew on the same plane as Meika to Atlanta, where they were met by another IPPL
staff member, David Kibbel, currently our Administrative Lead, in a 15-passenger cargo van to drive her the remainder of the way to the sanctuary.

The plane landed at 9:30 pm, and by 11:30 pm, with Meika, Ashley, and Krystal secured, they were on their way to the Sanctuary.

The crew drove through the gates of IPPL’s Sanctuary at 4:15 am on Friday morning, where they were met by me (JB), and by 5:15
am Meika was installed in her new indoor enclosure. Later that morning, she was given her outdoor enclosure in addition to the indoor.
